An ergonomic seating position at your desk will get you through the day

We tend to overload our back by sitting too long, too still and too wrong. Ideally we would recommend to use a good desk chair and an adjustable desk if you have one. During this period of 'emergency homeworking' these are some basic tips to have a suitable working environment.

  • Adjust your desk chair to your body. If you can’t do this, use some rolled up towels or pillows to provide maximum support for your back, shoulders and bottom.

  • Stretch every 20 to 30 minutes. By standing up or walking around.

  • Put your feet flat on the ground and make sure your knees are positioned lower than your hips.

  • Don’t push your popliteus cavity to your chair, but make sure your fist fits in between.

  • Support your shoulders against the backrest of your chair. Try to avoid bending over and lean back slightly.

  • Always place your screen and keyboard right in front of you.

  • If you have an adjustable desk table, place it at elbow height (when you are sitting down of course).

  • Make sure the top of your screen is completely at eye level. It’s proven to be better for your neck as you will always look straight ahead. If you don't have a screen at home, raise your desktop to eye level and use an external keyboard.

  • Keep an arm’s length between your eyes and your screen
